Update hiatus

Hello all!

Well, it finally happened. Dad and Mom's computer died. Which is admirable that it lasted this long, considering Mom got it before she went to college. So, that means that while Dad will scramble to find a new 'puter ASAP (they live and die by that thing), in the interim and in the time it takes to transfer files from the fritzed one to the new one and in the time it takes Dad to get used to the new one, I will be restricted while doing the blogging thang.

Dad is going to sneak me into his graduate school to use their computer lab. Hopefully there will be time to upload some old pictures/videos here and there to keep y'all from going into withdrawal, but even more hopefully this 'puter thing will get resolved soon.

In the meantime, I give you some nifty vids. This first one is a picture of what training can be like at our house:

This next one shows what progress I've made on overcoming my fear of the white coffin and of water:

Hope everyone has a better day than us!

Week-late Pug Club, part 2

I love big dogs! I'm just sayin'; they're awesome. Especially huskies!

I hung out with some of my brachycephalic and/or wrinkly brethren:

And I explored the ravine with Big Brother:

Now, the water saga is kinda interesting with me. I started out not liking it, but then I kinda started to warm up to it. I even jump in the shower now with Dad whenever he's trying to take one. He doesn't really let me stay, but I'm not afraid anymore of the "white coffin", as I used to call it.

So, today I even plucked up the courage to cross the stream! Just one problem: now I'm stuck on the other side:

Drat. I eventually found a better place to cross back, but Big Brother and I got SO dirty!

I was pretty wiped after that, but a fun time was had by all.

Wordless Wednesday

OK, so it's not wordless. But, today is the day that voting starts for the Pug Lover's Rescue banner contest! Let's get out there and rock the vote! Just click on my picture up at the top of the right-hand column.

The Curious Incident of the Pug in the Day-time

I'm back!

Whew! What an ordeal that was! First Dad takes me to this shiny place with lots of friendly people, then he leaves me there, then they give me a poke in my skin and I get all woozy and go to sleep, then I wake up and feel... really wierd, like something's missing. Can't figure out what, though... Oh, in other unrelated news, I have an odd line of funny-looking black things down by my back end. I try to reach them, but I've got this blooming cone thing on my head. It kinda freaks me out; I won't lie to you.

So that was Day One from inside the cone; Day Two was full of stomach-churning wierdness. Lots of stuff, coming out both ends. Didn't feel good, I can tell you that. But hey-- Dad seemed really upset, so I gave him lots of kisses and snuggles. In fact, I feel like snuggling a LOT lately. I just need to feel the humans next to me. Not really sure why, just do. Here's what's neat about it all, though: after not feeding me for like a day and getting me REALLY HUNGRY, Dad is now giving me this rice and meat stuff that is TO DIE FOR. I inhale it-- I never do that to food! I think there are some wierd little circular things in there that are hard, crunchy, and bitter, but I don't notice them too much. I'm too busy trying to figure out how to breathe around the food. Remember when Snoufer was sick, and I wished that I could get some of the side benefits too? Yeah... be careful what you wish for, right?

But life in the cone isn't all that bad. I get LOTS of cuddles and wrinkle-scratches and fussing, which is pawesome. Snoufer treats me a little better now; at least, he's not growling at me all the time. He does sniff my butt a lot, which is bizarre-- I've been here for almost 6 months, dude. You know who I am and what I smell like. Dad takes the cone off of me for a little bit during the day, especially when I'm outside. I can't got to the bathroom with that thing on. I don't know, it just freaks me out to do my business without seeing all around me. But, I get it put back on at night and during the day when Mom and Dad are at work. When it comes off, though, I get to play!

More news (of a sort): I'm starting to warm up to this whole water thing. I still don't think I like baths, but I will at least voluntarily get in the dreaded white coffin-- especially if Snoufer joins me.

And in other news, as of Day Three inside the cone (today), I have kept down all my food and antibiotics and have reduced swelling around the wierd black line, so things seem to be doing better! At least, Dad's mood is improved, and he's stopped looking at me like it's the last time he'll ever see me. Silly humans...

I'm so glad to be back, and I look forward to catching up with everyone!

Dog Park Super-fun!

Yesterday, Dad took Snoufer and me to the dog park! I take back all the bad things I said about him and Mom.

It was a beautiful day, so Dad decided to get himself and us out of the house. Unfortunately, Mom was not feeling well (Dad has been sick for the past two months; it finally got passed to her), so she stayed in. The sky was gorgeous!

There was no one in the small dog area, so Dad took us to the big dog part. I'm very glad he did-- there was so much new stuff to explore!

The best part were the small ravines and the creek bed-- lots of shade there! Dad says it was called Bear Creek. I didn't see any bears, but I saw several dogs big enough to be bears.

In addition to these guys, there was a whole family of Airedale Terriers-- if you look closely, you can see him trying to hide behind a bush. The big dogs loved the water. Good for them, I say. Snoufer and I have had too many baths to love water. We stayed on the shore.

But we spent a good bit of time exploring the shaded areas further downstream.

Once we got tired of exploring the ravines and gullies, we moved out into the trees, where Snoufer and I made some more big dog friends.

Dad has a thing for Huskies; he's wierd like that. Big dogs are so... big. How would they fit on a lap? Anyway, Snoufer isn't so sure about him, as you can tell.

Then, Snoufer and I branched out and explored the open spaces of the dog park. Which was interesting, because it was pretty toasty that day. We liked being out in the open, running around, but we liked the shade a whole lot more:

It wasn't too bad, though: Dad brought a couple of cold water bottles along and a travel dish, and filled it up several times for us. As you can see, Snoufer wouldn't share at first.

After all that, I was pooped:

So we headed home, but on the way ran into a few more Westies!

One of them even jumped in the creek-- apparently, he likes the water (wierdo...)

That was it for me: I was hot, so was Snoufer, and Dad had to get back home. So, we climbed in the car and drove back. When we first got in, Snoufer tried to take the "cold spot"-- underneath the dashboard where the air conditioning blows right on your back.

Dad thought it was cute, but he made Snoufer sit on the seat and put me there, since I'm a pug and needed cooling off more. No complaints here!

When we got home, we crashed hard. What a fun day it was! That's it for now, but I'll leave you with pictures of the beautiful Colorado scenery, so you can get jealous at what I get to look at every day!

Baths bite

I hate baths. I hate my humans for giving them to me. OK, I don't really hate them-- it's hard to hate them, with their wierd little noses that stick out and how their eyes are so close together and their hairless bodies: they're so ugly, they're cute! But right now, I don't like them.

They gave me a bath yesterday. I got wet. It was humiliating...

I tried to escape several times, but to no avail:

Oh well, at least Dad gets in there with me. Funny, though: Mom wouldn't take pictures of him, just of me. I guess it had something to do with those wierd fabric things they put on their bodies-- Dad didn't have any on. And here I just thought they were for making soft areas to sleep on the floor, and burying rawhides in.

Speaking of rawhides, I have found a new love: real bones! Petsmart has these great bones that are real live boniness, and they're awesome! It's great, because Snoufer chews on them until the big, hard nubbies on the end are gone, and then I finish off the middle. It's the best part anyway, with its yummy and chewy marrow... Mmmm... yummy bone yummy bone yummy bone...

What? Oh, sorry. Got a little distracted there. I still like rawhide bones, though.

I'm settling down a bit in the morning and sleeping longer, which is great because now Snoufer and I get along better!

Other stuff going on with my humans: Dad is looking for a job because his contract expires in September, Mom is still waiting on word for what class she will teach next year, and she is getting ready to leave on vacation back in Michigan with her family. She will be gone for a whole 3 weeks! Dad and I both are pretty bummed we can't go with her (Dad can't leave work for that long), but at least he and I can watch lots of movies together and maybe go hiking while she's gone!

That's all for now! I'll do my best to keep the updates coming-- Dad's getting a new computer soon, so maybe this one will not be discriminatory against persons of paw and will have oversized keys. I hope so. Typing with your claws can be really jarring...

Oh, and since Snoufer got a closeup last time, here's mine:

Fourth of July news

Hello again everyone!

I'm sorry for the delay in writing this-- what a week I've had! For now, I'll just tell you about my Fourth of July experiences, because they were exciting enough!

My humans and I went to visit family in Denver on the Fourth. It was only an hour and a half car ride, but it was still a bit too much for me. I had a little accident in the car, but Mom and Dad understood and it was OK. Besides, who can get mad at this face?

I was also a bit upset since they made me sit in the back instead of in the front with Mom. She had made a cake for the gathering and didn't want Snoufer or me to mess it up. Because I am awesome, though, I sneaked one or two pieces.

OK, so I didn't sneak anything. But I dreamed about it. Mmmmm.... yummy cake, yummy cake, yummy cake.

Anyway, once we got there it was sensory overload for me! I always love going to a place with new smells, so that was cool. Also, my humans' little 2 year-old cousin was there, so I got to play with him! He was a little bit shy and scared of me at first, but he got used to me eventually. He really had trouble with "Puddleglum", and wasn't even really able to say "Puddy," so I settled for "Woofwoof." Snoufer and I loved having someone our size around!

They had a sprinkler set up for him in the yard. Now, I've never been a big one for water. It's wet, for one. It makes me shiver, for another. And after I'm done, Snoufer chases me and tries to rub it in that he's dry and I'm not. So, I wasn't really a fan of running through the sprinkler. Mom had other ideas, though.

When it was turned off, I checked it out.

I think it's safe. Maybe next year I'll give it a try.

There were lots of other humans there, too. They all played this game that was part soccer, part baseball-- the best part was the big colored ball! I couldn't really get my mouth around it, though. Which is wierd. What's the point of a colorful ball if it's too big for me?

Mostly I just sat and watched. Don't let my svelte physique fool you: exercise isn't really my thing.

Snoufer had other ideas, though: he wanted to play! I guess that kind of exercise is sort of my thing.

Speaking of things that are my thing: FOOD! The humans put meat on this big hot black thing they called a grill, and some of it fell to the ground! I was in heaven... After one piece, I just camped out there.

After they turned the grill-beast off, I found some more.

Everyone thought I was really cute. Lots of head-scratching. To all you pugs out there: don't think you'll ever get tired of head-scratching? Try getting in a group of people who haven't seen you before and be as good-looking as me. You'll find out soon enough... This was number 2582. I counted.

We went inside for a while, just to get away from the sun and the heat. It wasn't too bad, but hey-- I'm a pug. I like cool. I also like destroying toys.

I was forbidden to go upstairs. I got caught a few times.

What? Who? Me? I'm not going upstairs. I'm stretching my hamstrings.

Yeah, they didn't buy it either. After that, the humans tied Snoufer and I up in the front yard and climbed up on the roof to watch these things they call fireworks. I love them! They make noises I can feel in my stomach, and they have lots of colors. Snoufer was more concerned with barking at the other people outside, but I just sat quietly the whole time watching the show.
After all that, I was pretty wiped. I went to sleep in the car and stayed that way the whole way home. What a day!

I've had lots of other stuff happen recently, so I'll update some more in a little bit, but my paws are tired now. It's so hard to hit the little letters just right when my humans keep my nails trimmed anyway. Well, I'll see you all soon!

Don't forget to leave a comment for me! I love hearing from my friends!
